What this tool does

Re-centering a 360° panorama means moving the viewpoint inside the scene so the composition and horizon shift, then re-projecting a new equirectangular image from that position. It is different from rotating the panorama, which only spins the view from the same fixed point.

A 360° panorama or HDRI is captured from a single fixed point. When that point sits in the wrong place (too low, biased toward one wall, or with the horizon off-center), you normally cannot fix it without re-shooting. This tool moves a virtual camera inside a spherical proxy of your panorama, then re-renders the scene from the new position. The result is a fresh, corrected 2:1 equirectangular image you can drop straight back into your engine, renderer, or VR viewer.

A simple rotation only spins the view from the same point. Translating the viewpoint re-centers the composition itself, which helps with AI-generated interiors, HDRI lighting setups, and product or architectural panoramas that feel off-balance.

How to re-center a 360° photo

  1. Drop in an equirectangular (2:1) JPG, PNG, WebP, Radiance .hdr, or .exr file.
  2. Drag the preview to slide the viewpoint, and scroll to move in or out.
  3. Hold Shift to rotate (level the horizon) or Alt to roll.
  4. Toggle the composition guides to align the horizon and thirds.
  5. Export a corrected PNG or JPG, a 32-bit float EXR or HDR, or save the JSON preset.

Frequently asked questions

What does it mean to re-center a 360° panorama?

Re-centering moves the viewpoint inside the captured scene and re-projects a new equirectangular image from that position. The center, horizon, and how the room sits around the viewer all shift, while the output stays a valid 2:1 panorama. It is not the same as rotating the image, which only changes the direction you look from a fixed point.

Can I move the center of a 360 panorama without re-shooting?

Yes. This tool translates a virtual camera inside a spherical proxy of your image and re-projects a new equirectangular from the new position, so you can recompose a panorama you cannot reshoot.

What is the difference between rotating and re-centering a panorama?

Rotation only spins the sphere; the camera stays at the exact center, so the composition does not really change. Re-centering translates the viewpoint, which moves the center of the scene and changes the parallax. This is a proxy-sphere warp, so it is artist-directed rather than a physically perfect 3D reconstruction.

Does it support HDRI, .hdr, and .exr files?

Yes. Radiance .hdr and OpenEXR .exr panoramas load with a tone-mapped, exposure-adjustable preview, and you can export the corrected result as a 32-bit float EXR or .hdr that preserves the high dynamic range. You can also export a tone-mapped 8-bit PNG or JPG, or a JSON preset that reproduces the exact warp.

Can I export a 32-bit float EXR or HDR from the browser?

Yes. The tool renders the re-centered panorama into a floating-point buffer and writes a standards-compliant 32-bit float OpenEXR (ZIP-compressed) or a Radiance .hdr, entirely client-side with no upload. The EXR opens in Blender, Nuke, Photoshop, and any OpenImageIO-based tool.

Is it free, and is my image uploaded anywhere?

It is completely free with no sign-up. All processing runs locally in your browser with WebGL, so your panorama never leaves your device.

What resolution and aspect ratio should a 360 panorama be?

An equirectangular panorama should have a 2:1 aspect ratio, for example 4096×2048 or 8192×4096. The tool exports at your source resolution, so a 2:1 image gives the most accurate result.

Can I fix a tilted or off-center horizon?

Yes. Hold Shift to rotate (pitch and yaw) and Alt to roll, then use the composition guides to align the horizon to the center line. Combine that with a small viewpoint offset if the scene also feels biased to one side.
